GlidArc-I

for activation, overheating, stabilizing or igniting of flames

 

The picture presents an example of GlidArc-I assisted flame of 60 kW thermal power. A premixed flow of 6 m3(n)/h of methane + 9 m3(n)/h air exits a 4 mm nozzle at 330 m/s. The mixture is constantly ignited and stabilized with only 0.5 kW added electrical power through 3 electrodes around the nozzle. The flame length is 0.5 m. It cannot burn without GlidArc assistance! Some potential applications of such electric assistance of flames:

o       Ignites propellants

  • Helps to achieve higher flame temperature
  • Allows a free choice of temperature and red-ox conditions in flames
  • Burns lean gases without any addition of fuel
  • Acts against flame pulsation or extinction when burning any waste gas
